Although mechanical seals have complex structures, proper use and maintenance can significantly extend their service life. Here are some common causes of malfunctions and corresponding maintenance measures.
1. Common causes of malfunctions
- Wear: Normal wear caused by long-term operation, which may be accelerated due to improper material selection or the presence of abrasive particles in the medium.
- Corrosion: The corrosive effect of chemical media on sealing materials may cause damage to the sealing surface.
- Hot cracking: Using at high temperatures can easily lead to excessive thermal stress on the sealing surface, resulting in cracks.
- Installation error: Failure to clean the sealing surface or improper spring loading during installation may result in seal failure.
2. Maintenance measures
Regular inspection: Regularly check the wear of the sealing surface and the condition of auxiliary seals, and replace worn parts in a timely manner.
Correct installation: Ensure that the sealing surface is clean during installation, the spring force is uniform, and avoid tilting and overloading.
Environmental control: Minimize abrasive particles in the medium as much as possible, and control the temperature and pressure of the medium within a reasonable range.
